February 14th, 2011

so Marriage Encounter Singapore organised a freeze flash mob to celebrate World Marriage Day which shares the date with Valentines Day.

we were very excited to have been part of the organisation of the event and thrilled to have been participants.

more than 50 couples gamely registered for the flash mob and from 1200 to 1205 on sunday, we froze along orchard road's pedestrian boulevard, displaying signs revealing how many years we had been married.

if anything, this is what valentines day should be about, not soppy superficial proclamations of love, but living testimonies to what love truely is - a well-grounded marriage!

we wracked our brains to come up with a suitable, unique and fun pose and spent many minutes practising before our reflections in the TV set.  see if you can spot us!!

Panis Angelicus

Lumen Christi Choir - here are 2 versions for your llistening and viewing pleasure:

By Josh Groban:

Panis Angelicus - Josh Groban</div>

and another version from a men's/boys' chorus from norway:

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Panis angelicus is the penultimate strophe of the hymn Sacris solemniis written by Saint Thomas Aquinas for the Feast of Corpus Christi as part of a complete liturgy of the Feast including prayers for the Mass and the Liturgy of the Hours.

The strophe of Sacris solemniis that begins with the words "Panis angelicus" (bread of angels) has often been set to music separately from the rest of the hymn. Most famously, in 1872 César Franck set this strophe for tenor, organ, harp, cello, and double bass; later arranging it for tenor, chorus, and orchestra, he incorporated it into his Messe solennelle Opus 12. The 1932 performance of that work by John McCormack in Dublin's Phoenix Park became the highlight of his career. Noteworthy renditions have also been performed by tenors Luciano Pavarotti, Plácido Domingo, Richard Crooks, Donald Braswell and Roberto Alagna, as well as by the sopranos Magda Olivero, Renata Scotto, and Chloë Agnew. Singing trio The Priests give an extraordinary rendition in their debut album.

The phenomenon whereby the strophe of Sacris solemniis that begins with the words "Panis angelicus" is often treated as a separate hymn has occurred also with other hymns that Thomas Aquinas wrote for Corpus Christi: Verbum supernum prodiens (the last two strophes begin with "O salutaris Hostia") and Pange lingua gloriosi (the last two strophes begin with "Tantum ergo", in which case the word ergo ["therefore"] makes evident that this part is the continuation of a longer hymn).

Text of Panis angelicus, with doxology

Latin textAn English translation
Panis angelicus
fit panis hominum;
Dat panis caelicus
figuris terminum:
O res mirabilis!
Manducat Dominum.
Pauper, servus et humilis.

Te trina Deitas
unaque poscimus:
Sic nos tu visita,
sicut te colimus;
Per tuas semitas
duc nos quo tendimus,
Ad lucem quam inhabitas.
Amen.
The angelic bread
becomes the bread of men;
The heavenly bread
ends all prefigurations:
What wonder!
consumes the Lord
a poor and humble servant.

Triune God,
We beg of You,
that you visit us,
as we worship You.
By your ways,
lead us who seek
the light in which You dwell.
Amen.

MJ, FF and LG

Share
yup, so these people have died.  Michael Jackson, Farrah Fawcett and Lorena Gale.

Unless you were a Battlestar Galactica fan, you might not know who LG was, and even if you were.  LG was that black lady who was the high priestess...

and I can't for the life of me understand why some - no scratch that, so many - people are mourning MJ's passing.  I mean have we so quickly forgotten all those MULTIPLE accusations of paedophilia which when overturned in court had us all shaking our heads in disgust and incredulity.  and certainly, the disguise he adopted of transforming himself into a white woman didnt help either.

but anyway, as with so many of these stars - river phoenix, heath ledger - we should be wiser in choosing our idols and stop according them too much respect...

so yea - 600!
I am so easily satisfied :)

and if you thot susan boyle was great, this guy must be something like 6 gazillion times better - susan boyle just sings and is ugly.  what this guy does requires so much more technique, perseverance, thousands of hours of practice and sheer determination.

here's nobuyuki tsujii in one of the preliminary rounds and in the finals of the Cliburn competition 2009, which he won:

the most fantastic parts to me are when he stops between movements and then puts his hands back on the keyboard and knows precisely where to go without barely any perceptible adjustment.

and you will probably only discern why I say that, if you know nothing about this chap, by watching the 2nd clip all the way to the end.

RESPECT!!

forgive the minor slip-ups, willya - the chap is blind
